Siting of pylons
Sir,—The placing of the pylons on the west side of the Desert Road and the apparent intention to place pylons in a similar manner between Ohau and Twizel would suggest that the planners are people who have forgotten that land forms actually exist. To them, it would seem, the neat symbols on a flat map are the only reality. This lack of visual awareness on the part of people in responsible positions is a matter of serious concern to all New Zealanders. Mr Hardie and Mr Pollard should be supported in their protest.— Yours, etc., VALERIE HEINZ. November 18, 1970. Sir, —N. D. Hardie and John Pollard are right. The pylons march on, between the scenery and the viewer, jarring the sensitivities. These blunderers stand for ever. Pylons and lakes. What do they mean to the Ministry of Works? When will they ever learn?—Yours, etc., BJ.W. November 19, 1970.
