Air fares

Sir, —While we do not usually reply to anonymous letters, that which appeared in your issue of November 12, signed by “F.G.H.” calls for comment. In criticising N.A.C.’s decision to apply for a further fare increase; your correspondent calls for greater efficiency and productivity per employee. He may be interested to know that over the last three years productivity has risen from 18,900 ton-miles per employee to 22,500, and this rise in continuing. Your correspondent will also be aware that N.A.C. must apply to the Air Services Licensing Authority for permission to increase

fares and that any member of the public may attend to present evidence in support of an objection. If "F.G.H.” is convinced that N.A.C. is inefficient and requires new management and drastic staff reductions, I would suggest that he presents his facts at the forthcoming hearing early in December. We would welcome any soundly based advice as to how we could operate more efficiently and yet still provide the wide range of services expected of us.—Yours, etc., D. A- PATTERSON, Chief Executive and General Manager, N.Z.N.A.C. Wellington, November 17, 1970.
