SUBSTATION SITE
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. Particulars of alternative sites investigated before it was decided to site the electricity substation in the Lansdowne Valley were given in Parliament today by the Minister of Electricity (Mr Allen), in reply to questions by Mr T. M. McGuigan (Lab., Lyttelton). “The whole area between Prebbleton and the Lansdowne Valley and adjacent to the existing Bromley-Isling-ton 220kV double-circuit line was investigated for possible sites,” said Mr Allen. The following locations, other than Lansdowne, were
given particular consideration: A shingly area between Halswell Junction Road and Springs Road, extending towards Shands Road. Flat farm-land adjacent to Murphys Road, between Halswell Junction Road and Quaifes Road. A low rocky outcrop between the Christchurch-Akaroa State highway and Paterson Avenue. “For various reasons the Lansdowne Valley site was considered the most suitable and was therefore selected for the proposed substation," said Mr Allen.
