BUDGET FOR N.R.B.
Revenue rise unlikely (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 18. Recent returns of petrol consumption indicate that the 4 per cent increase in revenue budgeted for will not be achieved, according to a halfyearly review of the financial position of the National Roads Board presented at a meeting of the board today. According to a revised estimate it was apparent that apart from a small amount for the State highway sector and flood damage, no funds were available to meet the District Roads Council request for additional works, the review said. This, combined with the-in-crease in the price of petrol to the user by 2.5 c a gallon and other economic measures, made it reasonably certain that there would be a failing off in the rate of increase in petrol consumption in the last quarter of this financial year.
