Price-freeze urged on killing charges
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has asked the Government to freeze killing and handling charges for export stock at the levels applying before November 1. As a result of the announcement of the Government’s general price-freeze, the board’s deputy chairman (Mr C. Hilgendorf) made such representations to the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter), urging him to use his powers tofreeze the export-
slaughtering and handling charges. The Minister’s powers to take such action are contained in section 34 (2) of the Meat Act, 1964.
Endeavour for Antarctica.— The Royal New Zealand Navy support ship, Endeavour, will sail for Antarctica in January to take men and supplies to the United States base at McMurdo Sound, according to a Navy statement yesterday. She will return six weeks later.
