NATIONAL POLICY ‘FAILURE’

(N.Z. Press Associhtion) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. The “embarrassing, belated somersault” of the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr Shelton) on a price justification scheme was brought to the attention of Parliament today by the Labour Party member for Roskill (Mr A. J. Faulkner). In a notice of motion, Mr Faulkner quoted from a speech by Mr Shelton in the House last year: “Under a Labour Government nobody, and I emphasise nobody, would be permitted to increase the price for any article or service Without making prior application to the prices commissioner. “We are going to have commissioners In this country—perhaps commissars. Each application would have to set out proof of higher imported costs or Increased wage costs to justify the application.” Mr Faulkner said Mr Shelton’s recently - announced price justifications were a further confession of failure of National Party policy. Mr Shelton should pursue the honourable course and recommend to the Cabinet a general election forthwith, he said.
