‘Serious fishing infringement’

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. A "serious fishing infringement” by a Japanese vessel south of Whangarei on November 18 had been reported by the fisheries protection vessel H.M.N.Z.S. Inverell, said the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Pickering) today. Three Japanese dories had been sighted three miles off shore, and three set lines found in the same area, Mr Pickering said. “The mother ship was identified,” he said, “and in view, of the seriousness of the incident the Government will ask the Japanese authorities to take appropriate disciplinary action against the vessel, including its recall to Japan.”
