‘A Robert Menzies needed in N.Z.'
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, NOV. 19. "What we need in this country Is another Robert Menzies—a man who, in 1961, wiped import control in Australia overnight,” the Dominion president of Federated Farmers (Mr A. C. BOgg) told a meeting of 150 farmers in Whangarei today. Mr Begg said import control was a key factor in the crisis within the farming community. “Some sections of the farming community are sheltering behind import con-
trol, and they are raising your costs,” Mr Begg said. He urged the farmers to lobby their members of Parliament particularly on three bills—the Valuation of Land Amendment Bill, the Land Amendment Bill, and the Local Bodies (Petrol Tax) Bill —soon to come before the House of Representatives. “We have got to change the mind of the Minister, and we can do this if we keep at our local members,” he said. Answering questions, Mr Begg was continually interrupted by interjectors calling for a more positive action from the farming community.
