Sportsman killed
P. A Sweeney, a promising young Rugby player and cricketer, was killed in an accident last week. Sweeney, aged 22, was a member of the Sydenham senior Rugby side during the last two seasons, and had played senior suburban cricket for Beckenham for the last three seasons. He played wing-three-quar-ter or full back for the Sydenham club, and in 1968 was a Canterbury fourth grade Rugby representative. In 1969 and this year he represented the South Island railways, and last year New Zealand railways at Rugby. As a cricketer, he was a right-arm fast bowler of considerable ability.
