Prospecting rights sought by big firm
(From Our Own Reporter) c- . WESTPORT, October 16. j An interesting entrant into mining ex- ’ ploration in the Buller-West Coast-Nelson area is Wright Stephenson and Company, Ltd.
In recent years many applications have been made to the Warden’s Court for min-' eral prospecting warrants and .licences by various groups, I including overseas companies. ; On Wednesday at Westport the Warden (Mr J. W. P. Watts) recommended to the Minister of Mines (Mr Shelton) that a warrant be granted to Wright Stephen- i I son’s to prospect 4200 acres] I around the mouth of the Onakaka River for a variety of! 'minerals including tin, I uranium and gold.
The company’s move into the mining field comes after an announcement by the managing director (Mr R. R. Trotter) that it might have to discontinue some of its services “which, although traditional, are not profitable.” A Wellington, doctor, Di M. J. Ongley, also applied for a mineral prospecting warrant over 230 acres near Waiimangaroa. ! He is interested in “all minerals,” according to his application, which has been recommended by the Warden for ithe consent of the Minister.
