Alexander, Australia’s new ; No. 1 Davis Cup player, lost ■ 11-13, 6-4, 6-4 to the former British under-21 champion, J. Paish. I. Tiriac (Rumania) the second seed, lost to J. Ciif- ! ton (Yorkshire), 6-4, 6-3. In the women’s singles semi-finals, Miss P. Hogan, ranked fifth in the United States and the fourth seed (in the Dewar Cup, crashed 16-3, 6-4, to the United States junior champion, Miss S. I Walsh, who will meet Miss ! V. Wade (Britain) in the final.
