Flights to unspoilt tropical resort

An Australian airline wants New Zealanders to fly with it to Maroochydore, north of Brisbane, a new unspoilt holiday resort with 50 miles of coastline—and strict by-laws to prevent the mistakes of Surfers’ Paradise. East West Airlines, Ltd, has just been granted Federal rights to fly a Saturday service between Sydney and Maroochydore, beginning on December 15.

The airlines tours development officer, Mr D. McDonald, said in Christchurch yesterday that Maroochydore offers cheaper living, a paradise for health people, cheap (fruit (pineapples, bananas, i nuts), wonderful beaches and aquatic sport. Mr McDonald has been a (week in this country studying the market potential. He

said that the airline planned to appoint a representative in New Zealand next year. East-West, owned by a group of New England graziers, began 22 years ago with a daily flight from Tamworth to Sydney. Now it has five Fokkers, will get full jets next year, and carries 250,000 passengers a year. Mr McDonald said the airline offered any visitor with an air ticket into and out of Australia 49 days of flying for $49. This included flights to the outback and any number of flights between Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. The airline also offers a daily air tour for $71.50 where a visitor can visit an outback homestead, see cattle and sheep farming, kangaroos and even an emu in its natural surroundings.
