Stewards honoured
Messrs J. W. Brosnan, G. H. Loffhagen and E. D. R. Smith have not offered themselves for re-election as stewards of the North Canterbury Racing Club this year, but have been made honorary stewards of the club. Tributes to their work in the Interests of racing were paid at the annual meeting of mem* bers of the club at Rangiora on Thursday. Mr Smith is A past-president, Mr Loffhagen a former vice* president and Mr J. W. Brosnan has stood down from the position of honorary treasurer. Mr Smith had done yeoman service to racing, especially in its efforts to secure stronger representation for country clubs on the Canterbury district? committee, said the president, Mr A. C. Macdonald, at the annual meeting of the club. Mr Loffhagen had been a steward of the club for 20 years and had raced several horses in Canterbury. Mr Brosnan had done valuable service to the club by his attention to its farming operations. An election for stewards resulted:—Messrs J. E. Austin, A. Davis, W. A. Diedrichs, M. W. Fletcher, J. A. G. Fulton, R. J. Gerard, G. H. Humphries, N. G. Mason, D. M. McKenzie, W. J. M. Shand, R. L. Thompson, and C. C. Wells. The unsuccessful candidate was Mr B. J. Frazer. Mr C. A. Macdonald will serve again as president, and Mr R. E. Adair has joined Messrs N. K. Aitken and A. P. Boyle as vicepresident.
