Harbour harrier race
Sir, —The traffic officer at Lyttelton considers that the annual Governor’s Bay-to-Lyttelton harrier . road race should be abandoned, as it interferes too much with the use of the motor-car. 1 understand some roads were closed for up to six hours in the car rally last week. I respectfully suggest to the Lyttelton Council that they encourage this excellent healthy sport for young and old, which involves thousands of participants in Christchurch besides the 200 or more runners in the race, by closing the harbourside road for at least one houi for the 1971 event.—Yours, etc., J. LOCKE. September 18, 1970.
