OPERA AND BALLET

Amalgamation Plans I (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, September 6. I Amalgamation plans for the [New Zealand Opera Company and the New Zealand Ballet Company are finally under way, after several years of [speculation and urging from [several quarters, including [the Queen Elizabeth II Arts [Council. I News of the move came from the chairman of directors of the Opera Company (Mrs Phyllis Brusey) after the opening performance of Gounod’s “Faust." At a social function, she said that supporters of both arts would be glad to know that negotiations toward an eventual amalgamation were under way, though they were at an early stage and it would be some time before any final decisions could be reached. Mrs Brusey also referred to the high standard of performance of the Symphonia of Auckland and hoped that the orchestra would be able soon to become fully professional.
