THEATRE FESTIVAL
Milton Group Successful (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. September 6. The Milton Theatre Group’s “Black Comedy” won the final of the national oneact play festival in Balclutha at the week-end. The other finalists were the Mairangi Players, of Auckland, with “Miss Julie,” the Hawera Repertory Society with “A Smell of Burning.” the Elmwood Players, of Christchurch, with “The Coffee Lace,” the Dunedin Repertory Society, with “And So Ad Infinitum,” and the Westport Players, with “The Calf Before the Hearse.”
The judge was Dr J. Reid, of Auckland University, and the awards were presented by Mr G. H. Stringer, a former director-general of the N.Z.B.C In his summary, Dr Reid said that “The Coffee Lace,” produced by Alex Henderson for the Elmwood Players, was well played with shifting • moods. It was well understood by the cast but the tint- -; ing was slightly uneven. * "
