HEPATITIS CASES
Decline Last Week
The incidence of infective hepatitis in the Christchurch Health District reached its lowest level in more than two years last week. Only one case, involving a child in the Lyttelton Borough, was reported, the acting Medical Officer of Health (Dr R. B. Cossham) said yesterday. This is the lowest weekly figure since August, 1968. The weekly figure reached* a peak in February this year when in two consecutive weeks 25 and 26 new cases of the disease were reported. For the rest of the period the average weekly returns have been about six new cases a week. Although there has been a drop in the number of cases reported, there could well be another increase with the onset of warmer weather. No other notifiable diseases were reported last week.
