RUSSIAN SHIP

New Zealanders will have the opportunity of cruising in the South Pacific on the Russian liner Shota Rustaveli next summer.

The charterers of the 20,000ton ship, Trans Tours (N.Z.), Ltd, of Christchurch, announced that the demand for berths was so high that a flycruise programme would be provided to cater for it.

Last summer the company became the first New Zealand, owned travel organisation to charter a passenger ship for cruising. The first cruise programme was offered only in Australia.

Mr D. Mundel, the company’s general manager, said that there had been a flood of inquiries in New Zealand when the company announced that it had chartered the Shota Rustaveli.

Two of the cruises will be available to New Zealanders. The first, in early January, will include jet travel to Sydney to join the Shota Rustaveli for a cruise to Noumea, Suva and Auckland. For the second, passengers will fly to Sydney in mid-January for a cruise to Suva, Tonga and Auckland.
