ENTHUSIASM IN BANDS
The enthusiasm and good will among members of the Canterbury Provincial Brass Bands’ Association were outstanding, the president (Mr J. Rafferty) said at the association’s annual meeting on Saturday. This had been evident at the recent festival in Timaru, he said. He was also impressed by the number of players in the junior sections.
The association was contributing to music by helping to promote the high school bands’ festival, which Mr Rafferty said was becoming a highlight of Canterbury's musical calendar. The secretary-treasurer, Mr S. Hobbs, was elected a life member.
Officers elected were: Patron, Mr R. Simpson; vicepatron, Mr R. Clarke; president, Mr Rafferty; senior vicepresident, Mr G. V. Aldridge; junior vice-president, Mr L. Clarke: secretary-treasurer. Mr Hobbs; auditor, Mr A Bruce.
