Greene Has Fine Win
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. The New Zealand men’s and women’s squash rackets teams lost their matches to New South Wales and Queensland, respectively, in the Australian interstate championships. The men went down, 1-3, and the women by the same score.
However, L. Greene, the New Zealand No. 2, scored an upset win over the former world champion, K. Hiscoe, 10-8, 9-7, 1-9, 2-9, 9-6.
. The New Zealand champion, D. Burmeister, went down to the runner-up in the Australian singles championship, C. Nancarrow, 7-9, 2-9, 5-9; D. Preston was beaten by R. Carter, 9-4, 9-5, 9-4; and S. O’Dwyer was outclassed by R. Ratinac, 9-0, 9-0, 9-1. Jocelyn Legg played outstanding squash to beat Ada Bell, 6-9, 9-6, 9-0, 9-2, in the women’s match, but Jenny Webster was beaten, 0-9, 9-0, 4-9, 9-4, 5-9, by Margaret Williams, Cecilie Fleming was beaten, 9-5, 2-9, 6-9, 7-9, by Lyle Hubinger, and Teresa Lawes, the New Zealand champion, was overwhelmed by Marion Jackman, the world’s No. 3 woman player, and could only score one point.
