A change of tactics in the second half enabled Canterbury te gain an easy win, 85-50, over Marlborough. Down by one point at half-time. Canterbury finally overwhelmed the Marlborough team, which had worked hard during the first half.
Palmerston North had a comfortable win over North Queensland, 97-70, after being held in the first half. North Queensland worked tirelessly, but was no match for the taller Palmerston North players. Although Southland beat Marlborough, 85-68, the score was no indication of the way Marlborough fought. Southland only gained the advantage in the last five minutes when its captain, C. Morris, inspired his team to pile on the points. Nelson overpowered a disappointing Wellington team, 76-59, in the last game of the day.
