CONDITIONS OF AWARD: A scholarship is awarded initially for two years, subject to satsifactory progress, but normally will be extended for the whole period of the course, usually three years. The Ph.D. degree course of this university requires the submission of a thesis. Basic allowance: 8A2655 per annum tax free. A married scholar without children whose wife is unemplyoed may apply for an extra 8A575 per annum. Married scholars with dependent children: BABIO per annum for the first child, 8A235 per annum for each other child. Basic allowance for medically qualified scholars: 8A3825 per annum; child allowances up to 8A1045 per annum only. Return fares are normally paid; help with housing is given to most scholars. Applications should preferably be made in January, April or September, but those at other times will be considered. An award can usually be taken up at any time of year.
