LECTURESHIP SENIOR LECTURESHIP AND LECTURESHIP IN CIVIL ENGINEERING (September 25, 1970) An appointment to the Lectureship/Senior Lectureship will be made in one of the following areas:— (a) the study of minerals and rocks as engineering materials and the application of this study to concrete technology and soil and rock mechanics; or (b) the study of engineering ’ measurement, especially in the field of structural deformation, the design of experiments and the application of new physical measuring techniques in surveying. Candidates should have either an engineering qualification with post-graduate qualifications in a related scientific field, or a science qualification with extensive experience in close association with engineers and engineering problems. For the Lectureship, candidates should have good general qualifications and preferably some experience or additional qualification in one of the areas listed above, or in applied mechanics or in metallurgy. LECTURESHIP IN PLANT PATHOLOGY, DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL BOTANY (September 11, ,1970) Applicants should have a higher degree in the field of Plant Pathology. The appointee will be expected to teach both elementary and advanced courses in plant pathology and to supervise candidates for higher degrees and carry out research work in plant pathology. McCREDIE, Registrar. : -3126 1 UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO ■ DUNEDIN, NEW ZEALAND ‘ HYPERTENSION RESEARCH WELLCOME MEDICAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE, DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE APPLICATIONS are invited from medical graduates, with a higher qualification, for an appointment within the Hypertension Research Group. This Group is supported by a project grant from the Medical Research Council of New Zealand and is under the direction of Associate Professor F. O. Simpson. It is backed by excellent facilities in the Wellcome Institute and in the Hypertension Clinic of Dunedin Hospital. Applicants should have some experience in hypertension or, alternatively, in cardiovascular or renal work or in clinical pharmacology. An interest in data processing would be useful. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out clinical research in some aspect of hypertension, to share in the care of in-patients and outpatients attending the Hypertension Clinic, and to take part in some clinical teaching. An appointee with suitable qualifications would be second in charge of the Group. Grading will be according to qualifications and experience.
