UNIVERSITY VACANCIES | THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC UNIVERSITY CENTRES IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC REGION Applications are Invited for up to five positions (initially for a two year period) in the Senior Lecturer/Lecturer range tenable at University Centres. Applicants, should be gradu* ates with experience in either school or university teaching or in extension work, but nongraduates may be considered in special circumstances. Applicants should have proven administrative ability and a special area of competence in which they can teach, preferably in education or in one of the traditional teaching subjects. Appointees will be expected to establish University Centres in selected countries within the University Region. These countries include Western Samoa, the Kingdom of Tonga, the British Solomon Islands Protectorate, Gilbert and Ellice Islands and the Cook Islands and, if applicants have a preference for a particular country, they should state this in their application. The University Centres will: 1. Act as a base for the work of the UNDP Secondary Curriculum Project. 2. Organise extension and inservice courses in association with local government departments. 1. Provide support for correspondence courses offered by the University. 4. Provide an Information service about the University for local people and transmit information on local needs to the University. 5. Act as a base for visiting University staff. 6. Undertake the training of local counterpart staff. 7. Encourage cultural activities. The funds for these appointments have ben made available by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. Salaries: Lecturer »F 3054 x 150-4104 x 198-5094. Senior Lecturer 8F5202 x 198 -8390. Note: These salaries are under review. Other Conditions: Allowances on appointment; assistance with housing; 10 per cent of salary to approved superannuation arrangement; gratuity of 10 per cent of salary for contract appointments.
