Horses On Roads

Sir,— May I point out to “Grow Up” that in some cases it is necessary to ride a horse on the roads. How else would one arrive at a pony club if a float was not available? Is it not better to ride a horse on the road rather than in the paudock during the winter months? Just imagine the muck the paddock would be in after a good downpour of rain. However, I do feel that with such density of traffic on such roads as the Main North and Marshland during the week-ends anyone who rides a horse down either of these roads should do so with the utmost care; even if it means leading the horse a few miles this makes the horse less nervy. I’ve done it. I do agree with “Pony Club Instructor” that people going out for a drive in the car at week-ends should slow down and be a little more considerate when passing a horse as they also, I feel, like to get out at the week-ends.—Yours, etc., BONNIE.
