Modesty Blaise In Sound Gallop

"The Press" Special Service WOODVILLE. The smart hack, Modesty Blaise, retained favour for Foxton with a smart gallop over six furlongs at Woodville yesterday. Another to please was Automatic, which eaught the eye in a faster-run six with the open sprinter. Notorious. Track conditions were soft where the fast work took place away from the rails. Conditions were cold and showery and not many of the trialists appreciated them. Modesty Blaise which E. Ropiha has developed into a useful mare through patient training and schooling, held off Ice Queen and Windy Filou quite comfortably at the finish of six furlongs in Imin 21 2-ssec. She appeared to be keen for more at the end of the final three in 42 4-ssec.

Automatic and Notorious galloped over the same ground in imin 18 J sec and ran in from the three in 40 2-ssec. They went pretty fast down the back straight where the footing was fairly good, but slowed near the end of their trial. Both horses would appreciate firm conditions at Foxton this week-end. Ropiha said that neither Notorious nor Lord Ex would ran if the track became soft

Lord Ex today loafed his way over a mile in Imin 56 sec with K. B. Marsh up, though M. Campbell will have the ride at the week-end. He took Imih 24sec to run his last six and looked fit as he came to the end of it. First Edition ran five furlongs in Imin 9sec, but could not match General Myth at the end of it, taking 411 sec for the final three.
