Hearing Aids For Thai Children
Three used hearing aids sent recently from Christchurch have arrived at La-Or Udis Kindergarten in Bangkok, where a special class has been started for young deaf children.
An appeal for used hearing aids was made by Mrs Doreen Grant, chairman of the Christchurch Regional U.N.I.C.E.F. Committee, an organisation which gives a certain amount of aid to the kindergarten’s work. Mrs Grant visited the school when in Bangkok last February to attend the triennial conference of the International Council of Women.
She said yesterday that her committee would be happy to forward more hearing aids
to the school if members of the public sent them to her at 19 Konini Street, Riccarton, or sent donations towards buying them. Dr B. Attagara, directorgeneral of tiie Department of Teacher Training, Ministry of Education, Thailand, said in a letter to Mrs Grant this week that the much-needed hearing aids had been handed over to the kindergarten. “I can assure you that these poor beneficiaries would wisb to express their appreciation as if saying: ‘Kind hearts are more than coronets.’ I wish, on behalf of all concerned in Bangkok, to thank you and the donors most sincerely for such commendable deeds,” Dr Attagara said.
