Top Price Of $lOOO At Shorthorn Sale

An improved average and a slightly better clearance were obtained at the annual South Island Beef Shorthorn bull sale at Studbolme last week. From an offering of 42 head, 26 were sold at auction, compared with 24 of 47 offered last year. Twenty-three run bulls produced an average of $425, and three led bulls $833, compared with an over-all average of $391 last year.

Three of the four led bulls found buyers at auction, top price of $1000 being paid on two occasions, the first byi North Auckland Farmers’ Co-i operative for a polled beast jfrom B. H. Miller, of Gore, land again by the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative, acting for L. C. Fincham and Son, of Hawarden, for a polled bull from Stoneylea Shorthorns, Ltd, of Mayfield. B. E. Pinckney and Son, of Edendale, gained the top price in the run bull section with a roan dehorned beast at 1700. He was taken by a Southland buyer. Messrs Pinckney and Son gained the creditable average of $520 for five run bulls, their sales ranging from $425 to $700. E. G. Butters, of Fairlie, was the other main vendor, with six run bulls selling from $250 to $450 for an average of $337.50. Details of sales were: — Led Hulls H.
