N.Z. Squash Finalists (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND i A former title-holder, D. Burmeister (North Shore), and P. Dibley (Maketu), will meet in the men’s open final of the Rothmans-sponsored New Zealand squash rackets championships. In their semi-finals last night, Burmeister beat another former winner, T. Johnston (Rotorua), 9-4, 9-5, 6-9, 9-6, and Dibley defeated D. Preston (Christchurch), 9-5, 9-5. 9-4. Preston, the South Island champion, began well in the first game and kept with Dibley until the score reached 5-5. at which point Dibley, with some nice winners, took control. Dibley also won the second at 9-5, after gaining an early 8-2 lead, and with some splendid cross-court shots ran up a 7-1 lead in the final game Preston fought back to 4-8, but Dibley’s greater steadiness told in the end.
In the women’s open semifinals, Mrs J. Webster (Manurewa) beat Mrs J. Legg (North Shore), 9-2, 9-3, 9-3. and Miss T. Lawes (Remuera) beat Miss R. Davis (Manurewa), 9-5, 10-8. 9-7.
