Smith- Street
Sir,—As residents of Smith Street we find the entrance to our street from Linwood Avenue the strangest piece of planning to come to our attention for some time. The turn (as such) leads absolutely nowhere. Could we have a reason for the right-1 hand turn not being directly into Smith Street as before? —Yours, etc.,
TEX AND BARRY, July 6, 1970. [The City Engineer (Mr P. G. Scoular) replies: “The area enclosing the intersections of Hay Street and Smith Street with Linwood Avenue is tbo large to leave open and uncontrolled. The two intersections are also too close to provide separate median breaks. Future development of the area east of Linwood Avenue is expected to increase traffic volumes on Hay Street, making it a more important traffic route than Smith Street Linwood Avenue will ultimately become a four-lane divided carriageway.”]
