Sir,—l strongly object to the use of “blackmail" when non-white pressure in sport is mentioned. Our workers “withdraw their labour” for this or that reason; they are not labelled “blackmailers.” But when non-whites try to press for racial equality “blackmail” comes very readily to the white man’s hand; nor does he blow the dust off his dictionary to check the meaning, for “black, mail” has a satisfying, smearing sound. Semantically: “blackmail” here means, “You are not white; therefore you
