Aviation Fuel For Week
Allowing for the normal weekly draw off by commercial users, supplies of aviation fuel at Christchurch airport should last until the end of next week.
The Shell Oil Company provides turbine fuel for the National Airways, Air New Zealand and Qantas. According to a spokesman yesterday the company believed’ it had ample supplies for normal scheduled services through the airport. The Canterbury Aero Club, which is supplied by BP (N.Z.), Ltd, has sufficient supplies to last until Tuesday, said a club spokesman. Mobil Oil (N.Z.), Ltd, which supplies fuel to the United States Navy Antarctic support force and Mount Cook Airlines, has adequate supplies. The grade of fuel supplied for the Starlifter jet transport planes is different from that supplied to the other users at the airport. On past and expected requirements the company believes it has adequate supplies of the fuel available.
A spokesman said that fuel requirements for American jets were often hard to forecast. At present there are three Starlifter flights through Christchurch each week.
At Wigram, a question about supplies held at the base drew a blank. “No comment” was the reply.
Country Party Conference. —The County Party will hold its Dominion conference at Waikato University this week-end, the party leader, Mr C. S. Emeny, said yester-day.—-(P.A.).
