(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, April 6.

Opponents and supporters alike expect victory in a Senate vote today on President Nixon’s controversial nomination of Judge Harrold Carswell to the United State* Supreme Court. Critics of Judge Carswell, a Florida member of the Circuit Court of Appeals, expect the ballot to go in their favour by two votes.

They have accused Judge Carswell of being biased, personally and judicially, tc wards segregation; his sup porters contend that tb liberal Northern oypos ing him do so simply becaus* he is a Southerner. President Nixon argued publicly last week that a rejection of his nominee would endanger the traditional relationship between the White House and the Senate. The vote is to recommit the nomination to the Senate Judiciary Committee, which would bury it and invite the President to withdraw Mr Carswell's name. If the vote to recommit fails, the Senate will take a direct vote on Wednesday on confirmation of the judge's appointment
