Contribution To Hostel
During the last 12 years' Christchurch Methodist Central Mission had contributed 549.455 towards the cost of running the Rehuai Maori boys’ hostel in Springfield Road, the convener of the hostel committee (Mr M. E. Lloyd) told the quarterlyj meeting of the mission's: board of management in Christchurch. Mr Lloyd said that this' amount included a capital contribution of 828,315 andi 821,140 to offset operating: losses which amounted to! 826.460 in the last 12 years. I The remaining 85320 in! operating losses had been pro-! vided by three Government' grants, one in 1966, one ini 1968 and one last year. Gov-| ernment subsidies towards! items such as land, buildings,! the laundry block, fences.; gates and paths totalled' 821.875. In his quarterly report for; the three months to Decern-; ber 31, Mr Lloyd said that thei effect of the Government's; announcement that it would : increase its financial assistance to churches running Maori trade trainee hostels, meant that the State had agreed to underwrite . the Rehua Hostel’s operational losses.
