Sumner In Command

Sumner wai in a commanding position against the competition leader, Beckenham, when the home side dismissed Beckenham for 124. An innings of 60 by B. Davison saved Beckenham from total collapse. Sumner at stumps had scored 203 for the loss of eight wickets, D. Tansley making 56. At Papanui, the home side, Merivale-Papanui, was out for 123, D. Gordon making 36 Hornby was 167 for five, J. Fleming batting well to score 57 and Johnson was 41 not out at stumps. Burnside scored 174 in its first innings against Waltham, at Burnside, B. Malden 45 and A. Westwood 25, the Burnside openers set a good start to the innings. Waltham at stumps had lost two wickets for 99 runs, Neville Clark batting well for 41.
