Tekapo Church
Sir, —1 am disturbed about your article today, “Tourism Runs Riot In Tekapo Church.” 1 feel certain that the happenings referred to by Mr Davy are not committed by people in conducted coach tours, which are all under strict supervision by expert guides. I was in a tour party on Sunday, February 15, and visited the church. As a retired organist, 1 deemed it proper to play a well-known hymn on the organ (which I found in good order and open for use). Our party stood in reverent silence during this, and their conduct was exemplary. To use the word “tourism” was rather sweeping in its context as there are numerous private cars passing through daily.— Yours, etc., F A. JUDKINS. February 26, 1970.
