U.N.I.C.E.F. APPEAL
The United Nations Child-: rens’ Fund, in conjunction | with C.0.R.5.0., yesterday] launched an appeal through-! out New Zealand for the vic-1 tims of the Nigerian civil 1 war. The appeal is additional to the grant of 85000 which! C.0.R.5.0. made- to U.N.L-, C.E.F. for this purpose on January 23. The world-wide appeal for s2m was launched by the executive director of U.N.I.C.E.F. (Mr H. R. Laboiiisse) before he left for Nigeria on January 15 to see relief work. C.0.R.5.0 offices throughout New Zealand will receive donations. In the last two ’ weeks, $430 has been received by the Canterbury-Westland- : Buller area offive, whose address is P.O. Box 1905, Christchurch. UN.I.C.E.F. has almost exhausted its emergency funds for Nigeria after two years of, assisting people on both] sides. Since the war began) the fund has arranged for shipments of more than 100 m (lb of food, drugs, medicines and other supplies for Nigeria. As one of the few aid organisations still accepted by the Nigerian authorities, it is continuing to help children and mothers and is anxious to continue and expand the flow of medical supplies and special children’s foods of high protein content.
