Plans For College Opening Function
The Minister of Education (Mr Taiboys) will be invited to open the new secondary division buildings of the Christchurch Teachers’ College at Ham on April 22.
In line with a previous de- i cision to strive for simplicity : in the ceremony, the college council last evening decided • if possible to limit speakers ■ to the Minister and the college chairman (Professor H. E. Field). The council fully discussed car parking, and decided to ask the Education Depart-
ment to make finance available for a bigger park. This, it was pointed out, was merely anticipating development and would meet Waimairi County Council objections over insufficient off-street parking. The college council’s executive committee reported that the language laboratory at the Ham site of the secondary division was not a shared facility. The principal (Mr E. P. Blampied) said that the Education Department expected the college to make the laboratory available to secondary teachers and possibly ( pupils. ■ It was decided that both principals should confer to ] present a case for the provision of a language labora(tory complex for both divisions of the college. An interim measure suggested was provision of language laboratory facilities at the city site. Sketch plans for the second stage of development involving primary and shared accommodation were received from the architect before Christmas. They have been sent to the Education Department with a request to start working drawings.
