Antarctic Exodus

The exodus of men from; the Antarctic after summer research and duty has begun. The first group left Christchurch for the United States on Monday and between February 12 and March 10 up to 900 men will be flown back to America in 15 aircraft. The United States Navy has fixed the closing dates of; summer activity at the various stations. They are: Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station, February 15; Brockton Station, February 16; Byrd Station, either February 18 or 19; Hallett Station, February 20; and McMurdo Station, February 26.

The commander of the support force (Rear-Admiral D. L. Welch) will be on the last flight of the summer to the South Pole station only. This year McMurdo Station will elose 11 days earlier than it did last summer.

The last of the cargo ships to go into Winter Quarters Bay at McMurdo Station is expected to have completed its task by mid-February.
