AMATEURS PICKED
Sponsored Golf Tournament N.Z. Press Association ■Tauranga. Twenty of the 50 amateurs who applied to play have been selected for the N.Z.F.P.-Stars P.G.A golf championship to be played at Mount Maunganul on January 8,9, and 10. Three of the players are on a plus-one handicap. They are S. G. Jones (Hastings), T. A. Ormsby (Otorohanga), and E. J. McDougall (Tokoroa). Eight others are on scratch, including the national amateur champion, G. B. Stephenson (Te Kauwata). Seven more are on one handicap. one on two, and R. F. Mackie, a member of the New Zealand Golf Council, is on a three. Four, or five women will play in the amateur section. Those so far confirmed are Miss U. Wickham (Tauranga) the present national women’s amateur champion, Mrs H. Robinson (Tokoroa), and Miss G. Taylor (New Plymouth) the national stroke play champion. It will be the first time that the national men’s and women’s amateur champions have competed in a tournament together.
