REFEREE SOUGHT
Three Great Boxers (N.Z. Press Aasn—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Three of the world’s great boxers, Joe Louis, Jersey Joe Walcott and Sugar Ray Robinson, have been approached to referee the fight between the former world bantam-weight champion, Lionel Rose (Australia) and Vicente Garcia (Mexico) in Melbourne on November 1. The promoter, Mr W. Long, said yesterday: “I cabled each of the old champions asking if he was available as referee and what fee was required. “I expect to know within 48 hours of their acceptance or otherwise.” The fight will be the young Aboriginal’s first since losing his crown to a Mexican, Ruben .Olivares, in Los Angeles on August 23. Rose, who had weight problems from the time he won the world crown from Fighting Harada (Japan) two years ago, will be having his first fight in the feather-weight division when he meets Garcia.
