Veterans’ Final

A former president of the Canterbury Provincial Golf Association, A. D. Russell (Amberley), will play A. J. McGillivray (Russley), in the final of the Canterbury veterans’ championship over 18 holes at Waitikiri today. This will be the culmination of the four-day tournament for members of the Veterans’ Club.

The oldest player in the tournament, the sprightly P. G. Greenwood (Russley), who is 83, will play in the final of a flight today. Among the winners of stroke events were J. D. Mackay (Russley), a 1928 All Black wing, and M. K. Boon (Christchurch), a 1962 Commonwealth Games bowls representative. Mackay won the Canterbury Veteran’s Cup for the best net score, and Boon won the Diehard Cup, for players aged between 65 and 69. T. McGhie (Waitikiri) won the over-70s cup.

Baseball.—The New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles, 5-0. in the third game of the world series baseball play off, to lead. 2-1. in the best-of-seven matches.
