Ashe Loses To Gonzales
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) LAS VEGAS (Nevada). P. Gonzales beat his former pupil, A. Ashe, 6-0, 6-2, 6-4, to win the $lO,BOO first prize in the $45,000 Howard Hughes open tennis tournament. Gonzales’s victory was bis second in succession on the professional tour. Two weeks ago he beat another American Davis Cup player, C. Richey, in the final of the Pacific south-west tournament. In the women’s final, Miss N. Richey defeated Mrs B. J. King. 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
