Dairy Products Meeting
New Zealand will continue to press for adoption of its two-point International agreement on dairy products at the forthcoming meeting of the G.A.T.T. Working Party on Dairy Produce, beginning on October 16 in Geneva, Switzerland. The Assistant DirectorGeneral of Agriculture (Mr K. C, Durrant), a veteran New Zealand representative at G.A.T.T. dairy group meetings, will leave Wellington today to join this country’s delegation. The delegation will again be headed by Now Zealand’s Ambassador to Brussels, Mr M. Norrish. The New Zealand proposal covers butter, butter oil, and skim milk powder. It aim* to establish minimum prices on dairy product* exported to the world market This, in effect would impose some limitation* on the amount of subsidies countries could pay on. dairy products exported Point two of the proposal calls for improved use of surplus dairy commodities through non-commercial outlets - such m food aid to needy countries. This would ease the pressure on overloaded commercial markets, and also provide humanitarian aid.
