Heart Disease
Sir,—Mr Taiboys is re- ! ported as saying that there is ■ considerable evidence to sugi gest that some heart condi- ■ tions are not caused by but- '■ ter and other dairy products. • He is correct in this assump- ■ tion. In the “American Heart ’ Journal” for 1963, A. M. Cohen ■ stated that Jews living in 1 Yemen eat very high fat I (mutton fat) diets yet have , very little heart disease. There is the strongest evidence that heart disease is a white-flour and. white-sugar disease. Professor John Yudkin, of the ' nutrition department of Lon- • don University, found that, without exception, the hospi- ■ tai patients with arterial dis- ■ ease were consuming substani tlally more sugar than those i in the control group who were i eating less sugar and had less i heart disease.—Yours, etc., ; T. O. L. ARMSTRONG. August 25, 1969.
