Impressive Gallop By Flying Crest
“The Pr«»x" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Flyii<a Crest followed up his rd matinee run on Tuesday working most Impressively at Awapuni yesterday morning. He ran a smart five furlongs and looks ready for a bold effort in the Barber Hack Handicap at Foxton tomorrow. The steeplechaser. Jack’s Bay. surprised with a good trial on the fiat. Others to please included Goldenlse, which put in a good effort over six furlongs on the course proper. On the inside trial Flying Crest was going easily alongside Royal Rye at the end of five furlongs in Imin 4sec, the last three in 38 4-ssec. Flying Crest has Improved considerably since racing at Hastings and looks a fine prospect for tomorrow. Jack’s Bay ran an excellent trial for the Carter Steeplechase when he matched Palamos in a fast five-furlong trial. They took Imin 2 2-Seec with Jack’s Bay matching his rival over the last three in 37 2-Ssec. Jack’s Bay must now come into calculations for Foxton. On the course proper, Finalise worked well over six furlongs in Imin 25sec. the last three in «3sec. He is in good
trim for the steeplechxse. Status will contest the same race. Yesterday hetworked with the Bergin Handicap runner, Gold Mint, and they took Imin 41sec Tor seven furlongs, the last three in 43 2-ssec. status won at Levin in his only start to date over country. Banagh, which has an improver’s chance in the Bergin Handicap, was travelling well with Royal Guest at the end of six furlongs. They took imin Usee for the last five, and 42sec for the final three. Goldenise was in her usual fine track form. She went over six furlongs in Imin 22 2-s**c, the last three In 42 2-ssec. to complete a good trial for the Bergin Handicap. The apprentice. J. Midwood, who was formerly with P. McIlroy at Takanlnt, has been transferred to E. Tempertan. Midwood has had about 30 rides and can go to seal* at under 7-7.
