INCREASED STAKES
Stakes have been Increased for the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s annual meeting to be held on October 11 next. Stakes for eight races have been Increased by $l5O each, and for the ninth event the increase is $l3O. Maiden pacers and trotters will race for $7OO, 2:19 class pacers for $B5O, 2:18 class pacers for $lO5O, 2:17 class pacers for $l3OO, and 2:10 class pacers for $1650. The race for 2:19 class trotters has had its stake increased from $670 to $BOO. The main race for trotters will this season be known as the Markalan Stakes. It will carry a stake of $2150, against $2OOO. Markalan’s former partowner and trainer, E. T. Hubbard, has donated a trophy valued at $lOO to the race. Stakes for the meeting have been increased by $1330, but if divisions are run in the races for 2*20 and 2:19 class pacers, the increase will be $1630.
