Protection For Flat Owners
(New Zealand Press Association;
WELLINGTON, May 12.
Legislation for acceptable titles to protect purchasers of ownership flats will be intro* duced in Parliament this year.
. The Minister of Housing (Mr Rae) told an urban renewal symposium in Auckland today that this legislation was vital. “A tremendous amount of time and investigation of overseas legislation has been put into shaping a bill towards this end and it has reached a stage when I anticipate there will be legislation this session,” he said. A proposal to establish a fund for urban renewal to ensure continuity of finance was to be submitted to the Cabinet for approval, Mr Rae said. He was sympathetic toward the proposal, which was suggested by the city councils in the four main centres. They suggested the fund in submissions on the report of the urban renewal study group set up by the Government In general, they appeared satisfied that the report offered the tools they needed. The Minister emphasised that while the Government had provided and would continue to provide finance for urban renewal schemes, it could not accept total responsibility. He agreed with most of the recommendations of the study group, but some points had to be argued. He hoped that his Cabinet
colleagues would support the recommendations when • the views of the Government committee, which was studying the report, were presented soon.
