Success In Judo
Canterbury judo representatives took a large share of the titles and minor placings in the New Zealand junior and intermediate championships at Wellington last week-end and eight from Canterbury were included in a New Zealand team of 22 to compete in Australia in August. In the intermediate section) Canterbury won the light middle-weight title, was see-' ond in the light-weight, middle-weight and open classes. In the junior classes it won the sst, Ost, Bst, and 9st titles and was second in the sst and third in the lOst classes. The most remarkable performance of the championship was put up by David May in the 6st junior section. May won each of his eight fights in less than 30 seconds and he is regarded as the best junior judoka in Australia and New Zealand. When an Australian team toured here last year. May beat all the Australian junior representatives. The New Zealand representatives from Canterbury aret A. Flynn (Sst), D. May (6st), P. Dixon (Sst). D. Martin Ost), H. Kellens (lightweight), and L. Tuck (middleweight and open) (Christchurch International Judo Club); R. Upston (sst) (Avonhead); G. Poulson (Kan-Am-Ju Club), (ligbt-middle-weight).
