OPERATION “DARING REBEL.”—United States marines prepare to move inland after an assault on Barrier Island, South Vietnam, 20 miles south-east of Da Nang. Overhead, smoke clears from a naval bombardment of suspected Viet Cong positions. Also taking part in the 4000-man operation are South Vietnamese and South Korean troops. The Island has been controlled by the Viet Cong since early in the war.
